Bridging the Gap’s High Rise Bakers are the inaugural recipients of the Veronica Burke Award in recognition of Contributions to Breadmaking.
The Baxters is the historical name for Bakers and the The Award was set up in memory of Veronica Burke, co-founder of Bread Matters and Scotland the Bread, who died in April 2018.
This is the online Award presentation.
Chair of The Edinburgh Bakers’ Trust, Wendy Barrie, said:
“Veronica was a very special person and the world is a poorer place without her so we wanted to set up something in her memory to honour her. Bread is a powerful word and sharing bread is a sign of community wellbeing but, as Veronica advocated, it must be Real Bread, crafted from high quality grains and other natural ingredients.”
