The three grant applications were approved at the November 2022 Board Meeting.
Ben Read – Gluten Free Bakery
The Trust considered a request for seed money to help with the initial research and development phase, during which a small test bakery must be set up in which to develop a series of techniques and recipes suitable for scaling up to a production business model.
The Trust agreed an award of £2000 to Ben Read towards this excellent venture application.
Edinburgh Food Social (EFS)
EFS plan to incorporate new baking-specific sessions to our Food Truck and community cooking
programmes. These sessions will cover the history of bread baking and preparation and
introduce participants to basic baking skills. Additionally, we often design and distribute
seasonal recipe cards, and we plan to introduce an expanded range of baking-specific recipes.
Specifically, they will use the funding to:-
● Purchase flour from Scottish producers;
● Pay for staff time to prepare and deliver at least eight baking workshops;
● Pay for staff time to design and distribute at least four new seasonal baking recipe cards.
They will equip participants with the skills and confidence to bake at home and to share their
creations online, inspiring their followers to explore baking and, by tagging EFS, connecting their followers to EFS and the opportunities they provide.
The Trust considered this to be excellent use of the Trust’s monies and support the full amount £1434 being paid.
