Edinburgh Food Social thank The Baker’s Trust for support in 2020

The entire team at Edinburgh Food Social would like to say a huge thank you to The Baker’s Trust for your support and generous donations over the past 12 months.

It seemed that the world as we know it partially collapsed in the early Spring of 2020, with many of the challenges continuing into this new year.

Inequality, food poverty and isolation are just a few of the increased difficulties that our
communities are facing- the unknown complications of Brexit just make a sad situation all the more dire.

However, we are fortunate to possess the skills, drive and determination to face these challenges head on and, during 2020, were able to prepare and distribute just shy of 75,000 meals to those who needed them most.

Meanwhile, we began the first of our Good Food Apprenticeships; teaching young people from complex backgrounds about local, sustainable food and cooking. Meryn, Jamie, Ale and Liam have proven to be exemplary apprentices and we are exceptionally proud of their achievements thus far. The immediate future for them is exciting as they begin their work placements across Edinburgh.

Thanks to The Baker’s Trust, we have been able to use the finest flours from our local millers (Mungoswells & Scotland The Bread) to learn about basic bread production and baking. Not only have we used these flours in our day-to-day cooking and baking but the young people have also enjoyed a sourdough masterclass with Federico Madonna (Argyle Place, Breadshare, Edinburgh Larder).

The above only tells a fraction of our story so far- please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us to find out more- hopefully we will be able to welcome you to our home in Castlebrae in the not too distant future.
