Douglas has a BA degree in Economics from Heriot Watt University and on graduating entered the family butchers business in Dunfermline. A former President of the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders, Douglas served on the Quality Meat Scotland board on two different occasions and the Scotch Quality Beef and Lamb Association board before that. He had been the Federation representative on the British Meat Marketing and Promotions Committee and was to serve as Scottish Craft Butchers, Chief Executive from August 2001 until he retired in May 2019.
During that time he served on the Scottish Food Enforcement Liaison Committee, Scottish Government and Food Standards stakeholder groups. As head of Scottish Meat Training, a training provider, he engaged with SQA and Skills Development Scotland. He was on the organising committee for the World Scotch Pie Championships for a number of years and still happy to be invited to judge at the British Pie Awards in Melton Mowbray.
Douglas has served as a trustee of the Carnegie Dunfermline and Hero Fund Trusts since 1993. His interests include football and has been content coordinator for the Dunfermline Athletic official website since 2000.
